What if you are too out of shape and are trying to release/come out of years of a sedentary life due to chronic pain. I can’t go from my back to my side on a roller without assistance and excruciating muscle pain.
Hi Stacy - I’m so glad you asked this…thank you for this question. Some moves are more advanced than others, and in general rolling on a foam roller can only work once you’re able to get down onto the floor and get back up again. First and foremost, I recommend a SOFT foam roller for anyone experiencing chronic pain and/or just coming back into movement after a period of stillness. Second, for a more approachable intro to foam rolling, I have a free mini-class on my website that I’d love for you to try. You’ll find both roller recommendations AND the mini class on my site, www.release-technique.com. Keep me posted! I’m here to help.
