DIY Neck Massage to Relax Muscles, Move Lymph and Drop into the Parasympathetic.
A little pressure might be all your neck needs to release today's tension.
Hello Friends,
Today I bring you the neck technique. I love this one because it’s uncomplicated, safe and quick. It’s everything you’d want a foam rolling technique to be. These are the muscles we’re targeting:
I like a soft roller for this one because while the neck likes pressure, it doesn’t want to get beat up. This is in part to protect the lymph nodes from unwanted attack, where they’ll swell to defend themselves. It’s the same reason why I will never advise you to use a percussive massage gun in your neck. You can use a firm roller, however, because the pressure is broad enough to keep your lymph nodes safe. Do the technique exactly how I teach it and you’ll feel great. :)
There is so much that contributes to neck tension. If you’re a jaw clencher, your SCM (sternocleidomastoid muscle) is holding excessive tension and keeping you in an unwanted tension pattern, but it’s also working with the muscles of your jaw and chest to keep you there. Get out of that pain pattern with a class specifically designed for releasing it.
If you’re a desk dweller (yes, even at a standing desk) your entire upper body is involved in holding pain patterns that you’ll want to get out of on a regular basis so that your baseline is just more neutral and less irritating. A quick, upper body foam roll once a week is an efficient and absolutely delicious way to do this! You’ll not only feel the tension melting away within the class session but you’ll have released built up stress and physical tension so you can be calmer, sleep better and feel more balanced. But, something more intensive might be the answer and if that resonates with you, explore how my Neck and Shoulder Relief Masterclass can help.
Enjoy the neck release, buds! See you back here in a couple weeks and as always, feel free to drop a comment or ask me a question. 💛
