The Hidden Culprits of your Lower Back Tension

This week’s roll class is all about the lower back and the other systems that contribute to it’s dysfunction and tightness. Don’t get me wrong, we definitely scratch the itch by sinking the roller into the QL (the quadratus lumborum, that low back band of muscle that screams for pressure and attention) but we also address these buddies, too:
Quads: When the quads are holding excessive tension, they’ll cause your pelvis to tilt backward, bringing your spine out of alignment and forcing your lower back into strain. It’s called an anterior pelvic tilt.
Glutes: The glutes are a huge supporter of holding up the back line of the body and when they’re super tight, they’ll stop functioning so well and make the lower back do all their work. Ruuuude.
Lats: These puppies are our biggest back muscles! They span from the lower back ALL the way up to the shoulders so if they’re holding tension, chances are they’re tugging on the low back.
