Free Roll Class + Relax your Back!

Hey Friends,
Lately I have been thinking about boundaries. I realize I have a lot of boundaries.
Whether it’s evolving my bodywork practice to become a fully clothed practice (no naked bodies on my table anymore), allotting one weekday, every week, to clean my house and do the laundry, protecting my child’s nap at basically all costs even if it breaks hearts, or swatting my family away from eating off a charcuterie plate that I’m trying to beautify on Thanksgiving day (lol-because they’re all reading this).
When I picture a boundary, I automatically picture a boundary placed against another person. But then I remember how I got so good at creating boundaries in the first place, and it was because as a young massage therapist, when people came to see me with ALL their various energies, I would feed off and absorb their energies and I would be absolutely TAPPED by the end of even just one session.
Boundaries are not about anything other than preserving and protecting our own energy. If the kid doesn’t nap, we both will have a less enjoyable evening. If the body is naked, I won’t be able to stretch it in all the ways that excite me and nourish my client. If the family doesn’t let me create this damn charcuterie plate, I won’t be able to stand back and admire how pretty it is. ;)
Teaching our weekly foam rolling class is my boundary against burnout. Rolling lowers cortisol levels by way of relaxing the fascia, expanding the breath and requiring you to “take a chill,” as my 3yo would say (usually in reference to the hummingbirds sitting down at the feeder instead of flying while sipping, but we are working on expanding the phrase to other applications).
If you haven’t taken a full class yet, dude…carve out the hour. It’s so worth it to not only begin to explore your physical body in a new way but to tap into a depth of your subtle body and release things you didn’t even know you were holding.

Speaking of Free…
This week’s free technique is about the SPINE.
How does your spine feel today? Snakey? Stiff? The paraspinal muscles refer to any muscles that are surrounding and attaching to your spine, therefore mobilizing AND supporting it.
In a world of spinal compression and weird positioning (I'm talking about sitting all day, ya'll) the paraspinals have a ton of work to do!
Let's give them a break and OH MAN are you gonna love this break. This technique takes two balls of lacrosse/tennis/pinky ball size. Enjoy--lmk how it goes!
Have a great weekend, everyone! With love,
Maggie V
